Air pollution linked to low birth weight in babies!

     Pregnant women who live in areas with high air pollution are significantly more likely to bear children of low birth weight, according to the largest international study of its kind. Mothers who are exposed to particulate air pollution of the type emitted by vehicles, urban heating and coal power plants risk having babies of low birth weight, according to the study.

Google invites you to make India Maps better!

     Google India has announced Mapathon 2013, the country's first mapping competition. It is a crowdsourcing initiative aimed to improve Google Maps in India. Registrations for the competition, which commences on February 12 and concludes on March 25, 2013, have begun. The top 1000 mappers stand a chance to win Android tablets, smartphones, gift vouchers and Google merchandise, the company said.

Vitamin D levels could halve diabetes risk.

     Adequate levels of vitamin D during young adulthood may halve the risk of adult-onset Type 1 diabetes, according to a new research. The findings by the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) could lead to a role for vitamin D supplementation in preventing this serious auto-immune disease in adults, when the immune system starts damaging tissues.

US man recovers stolen 300-year-old German Bible.

     A man’s heart sank when he realised that burglars had broken in and stolen a safe holding his most prized possession a 300 year old family Bible.

     The Lutheran Bible, written in German Gothic script and containing the handwritten dates of births, deaths and marriages for seven generations of Tim Shier’s family, went missing in the burglary in December 2011.

How Many Versions of RSS Language Standard?

     RSS is relatively new. Many versions have been developed in recent years:

     RSS 0.90 - The earliest known version of RSS released to the public by Netscape in 1999. RSS 0.90 is based on RDF (Resource Description Framework). When RSS 0.90 was created, the RSS initialization stood for Rich Site Summary and not Really Simple Syndication.
