Happy birthday, Kate!

Whatever the Duchess of Cambridge wears turns to gold.

From that Zara cornflower blue dress to those vibrant pink jeans and her exquisite Sarah Burton wedding gown, her sartorial selections have sent high-street and designer sales soaring as women try desperately to emulate her impeccable style.

Whether striking in bright red Alexander McQueen during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee pageant, or dressed down in Le Chameau wellies and a campfire-chic gilet while on a forest outing with inner-city children, Kate's wardrobe choices are consistently classic, carefully considered, polished and chic.

This year she has been both elegant in a plunging emerald Jenny Packham gown at the Royal Albert Hall, and supportive of the 2012 London Olympic Games by sporting a £49,000 Cartier gold hoop necklace.

We have seen her dressing demurely and respectfully when visiting temples during her tour of the South Pacific with the Duke, and casually while taking strolls along the Anglesey beach with the couple's spaniel, Lupo.

She has opted to wear designs by 'King of the dress' Roland Mouret, Canadian London-based dress-maker Erdem, Burberry, Issa, Alice Temperley, Reiss and LK Bennett. And on tours with her husband she has gratefully worn garments gifted to her by designers from countries including the Solomon Islands and Singapore.

Even when emerging from hospital for the first time following the announcement of her pregnancy after a bout of severe morning sickness, the Duchess' navy Diane Von Furstenberg coat, cosy tights and strategically placed bouquet of yellow roses demonstrated that even when she's not feeling her best Kate still has the ability to charm us all.

And with the arrival of the Royal Bump, 2013 promises to be a year in which Prince William's wife will continue to delight and surprise us with a brand new assortment of fashion choices. Designers are already putting pen to paper accepting the challenge of creating maternity wear fit for a future queen.

How the Duchess chooses to dress during her pregnancy - not to mention how she chooses to style herself and her baby once the little boy or girl arrives in the summer - will set trends for expectant mothers and new parents everywhere.
