Micromax A54 Smarty 3.5

In 2012, almost all the India based handset vendors including Micromax were quite busy in launching a spree of handsets into the market at different price points.

Micromax, who recently launched a phablet - A116 Canvas HD is now in the headlines for its entry-level handset - A54 Smarty 3.5. The handset has been spotted on online retailer site Infibeam.com at a price of Rs 4,659. After launching a high-end quad core Android Jelly Bean device, Micromax has come up with a dual SIM Gingerbread based smartphone.

When it comes to specifications, A54 smarty 3.5houses a 3.5 inch HVGA touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7225AA processor, 512MB internal storage, 256MB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS, 3MP rear camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 1,300 mAh Li-ion battery delivering 4 hours talk time and 170 hours of standby.

From the specs, it can be said that Micromax has targeted the first time smartphone users with the Smart 3.5.

Though it might look too outdated to have a Gingerbread smartphone, Micromax is not the only company to come up with such offerings in India. Almost all the main native manufacturers including Karbonn, Intex, Spice, Lava and several others are also launching such entry-level smartphones at budget price points. Not only local vendors, but also Samsung - the world's largest smartphone manufacturer has also launched a plethora of such handsets.

As Micromax is constantly pushing in a lot of models into the smartphone segment of the country, it is clear that the company is aiming to secure the position of a leading handset vendor in India. However, the latest offering - A54 smarty 3.5 has several prominent competitors in the market.
